Apprenticeships 'a viable option' for young people
Businesses looking to boost their workforce and enhance their long-term prospects may find that apprenticeships are a wise option that can benefit both the company and the worker, it has been claimed.
That is the opinion of Denise Taylor, career psychologist with amazingpeople.co.uk, who said that apprenticeships are well thought of because people are gaining the skills that are required for the job.
She pointed out that they may also be an attractive option for people who do not get into the university of their choice when A-level results are issued this Thursday.
"What can you do that will enable you to get a portfolio together, just like artists do, so you've been able to gain work experience from a range of different places and sometimes it's about looking for the opportunity," Ms Taylor noted.
Meanwhile, according to Ed McRandal, policy advisor at the Recruitment and Employment Confederation, apprenticeships may also go some way towards solving the problem of rising youth unemployment in the UK.
