Employers 'not managing risks' around staff rewards

Many companies are failing to measure the risks associated with how they reward staff for good performances, and the number is increasing, a new report suggests.

Research carried out by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and published in the report Managing Reward Risks: An Integrated Approach shows that 15 per cent of respondents think that their organisation is poorly prepared to deal with these risks, up from nine per cent in 2009.

Meanwhile, only 15 per cent of employers believe that their organisation is well prepared compared with 17 per cent last year.

Charles Cotton, performance and reward adviser, CIPD, commented: "The past 12 months have been a turbulent time for many employers in terms of pay and benefits practice. They are fearful that the way that reward helps them attract, retain and motivate their employees is no longer appropriate."

In an article published on OnRec.com recently, Alex Pratt, entrepreneur and author of Austerity Business: 39 Tips for Doing More with Less, said that traditional attitudes to sales recruitment need to change to ensure that businesses are operating efficiently.
