Body language could make the difference for sales jobseekers

Keeping nerves and body language under control is so important in sales jobs interviews, according to an expert, who said that getting these things right is key to capturing the right job.

Body language expert Drew McAdam told STV.tv about the importance of making a good first impression, producing a good handshake and mirroring the movements of the interviewer.

"People do not realise that the physiology between nerves and excitement are exactly the same; the sweating palms, the heart racing and the butterflies in your stomach. The only difference is in your mind, it's how you perceive what you are experiencing," he stated.

As well as having a good, firm handshake, interviewees also need to ensure that they use open and relaxed body language rather than staring at the table or sitting with their arms folded.

The Financial Post recently reported on the body language faux pas that female politicians make, which included excessive smiling and too much head tilting.
