Gov't needs to support positive employment figures

The recent positive figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) are great news for people looking for sales jobs and the sales recruitment industry in general, however the government needs to support job creation to make the most of them, according to an expert.

David Kern, chief economist at the British Chambers of Commerce stated that now is the right time for the new coalition government to do "everything in its power" to encourage job creation in the private sector.

"These figures are much better than expected. Employment is up, unemployment is down, and there has been a fall in the level of inactivity ... trends over the past year have been negative and the impact of the tough measures in the Budget will only be seen next year," he stated.

Small and medium-sized businesses would benefit the most from government support, according to the expert.

The ONS figures revealed that the employment rate for the three months to May 2010 was 72.3 per cent, up 0.3 on the quarter.
