Financial services are more inviting to women
There are more hopes for women looking to land the perfect financial services sales job in post-recession Britain, according to an expert, who said during the downturn companies were less interested in promoting women into senior positions.
India Gary-Martin, president of the City Women's Network (CWN), said that during the recession it was more difficult for women because longer hours, money-saving measures and less flexibility from businesses worked against female advancement.
"Initiatives to increase the number of women on boards are less attractive to companies whilst fighting through a recession. The immediacy of commercial issues are often cited as the reasons for reduced focus," she stated.
Having a women's network for financial services workers is important, according to Ms Gary-Martin, who said the connections they make can help them land better sales jobs in the future.
The Confederation of British Industry recently found that activity in UK financial services grew at the fastest rate since September 2007 in the last three months.
