Focus on employee engagement 'driven by recruitment needs'
A growing number of employers are focusing on employee engagement in order to attract top talent, a study has suggested.
Mercer's 2010 Attraction and Retention survey has found that many companies are emphasising this area in order to improve their attraction to employees.
Firms using sales recruitment could follow the lead of the 27 per cent of companies who improved the communication of the value of their total rewards in order to boost engagement.
Other approaches that many firms are using include emphasising work-life programmes, formalised career paths and special project opportunities.
Loree Griffith, principal with Mercer's rewards consulting business, claimed that the recovery is leading to firms revisiting the issue of pay in order to boost their competitiveness.
She added: "Non-cash programmes like career pathing, increased communication to employees and work-life initiatives are important in fostering employee retention and engagement regardless of the economic environment."
Earlier this month, Keith Prowse acting managing director Andrew Hodgkins claimed that star employees need top rewards such as tickets to sporting matches and contests, fine dining or superb extra services.
