Retail sales 'likely to spike in July due to World Cup'
The World Cup is likely to lead to a spike in high street sales, an organisation has claimed.
Figures published by the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) have suggested that there is optimism about July's retail sales, despite a year-on-year fall in June.
Those looking for retail sales jobs could benefit from any increase in performance in the sector, as 11 per cent of shops believe that sales volumes will rise from July 2009.
Ian McCafferty, the organisation's chief economic adviser, stated that household goods and grocers have experienced solid growth throughout the month.
He added: "As the survey pre-dates the emergency Budget, news that the feared rise in VAT will not take effect until next January may well also encourage some advance spending over the second half of the year."
Earlier this week, the CBI welcomed the government's plans to lower corporation tax, suggesting that this would encourage businesses to remain within the UK and that it could even draw in firms looking to establish new business bases.
