Govt's new pension enrolment stance 'good news for sales recruitment'
The coalition government's willingness to reconsider auto-enrolment to pension schemes could be good news for those who regularly use sales recruitment services.
Anne Fairweather, head of public policy at the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), claimed that those workers who are involved in short-term assignments would find automatic enrolment into a pension scheme of only limited value.
She said that this would create a large amount of bureaucracy that could be avoided by reviewing the legislation.
Her comments follow an announcement by Steve Webb, minister of state for pensions, who said that it is important to consider whether the inherited system offers the "right balance" of benefits and costs.
Ms Fairweather added: "We are calling for a common-sense approach and for the specific nature of agency work to be recognised and factored in."
Business secretary Dr Vince Cable recently emphasised the importance of reducing the bureaucratic burden on small and medium-sized businesses, saying that this would help companies thrive.
