Social media needs to be embraced

Companies using sales recruitment and people in sales jobs need to ensure that they embrace social media as a marketing tool, whether they like it or not, according to an expert.

Di Forster, director at SEO Junkies, told Internet World that younger employees will be au fait with social media but it is the senior members of staff who may need convincing of its benefits.

"What they've got to do is convince people at director-level or people who sign off budgets to actually spend online rather than print, which is potentially a bit of a culture shock," she said.

The expert added that established businesses are facing up to the fact they have to have an online presence in order to capture the younger customers.

Digital intelligence provider eMarketer recently found that in the US healthy economic gains, along with the ongoing shift of marketing dollars from traditional to digital media; have contributed to the double-digit increase in online advertising.
