Firms are more confident about hiring

More firms are becoming confident after the economic downturn and are starting to hire and use sales recruitment services again, according to an expert, who believes the job market will remain competitive.

Lisette Howlett, managing director and founder of HireScores.com, stated that because many firms will not have taken on staff for a while, the selection process will be tougher due to more applicants going for positions.

"As things start to ease in the economy more people will also be looking to move on and this creates a knock-on effect. It is likely that employers will be quite selective with who they hire which will make competition for jobs remain tough," she said.

An area which the expert thinks is doing well at the moment is financial services, which she said was "coming back quite strong".

A survey of UK employers by the CBI recently revealed that nine out of ten communicated the impact of the recession on their business to staff and this led to employees understanding the need for changes to their working life.
