UK business 'downplays its capabilities'
The UK has enough skilled and experienced business leaders to get through the economic downturn and technical teams to aid the recovery, according to an expert.
Noel Quinn, head of commercial banking for HSBC, said that British business often downplays its strengths and he thinks the economic signs are reasonably positive and show the UK is on the road to recovery.
"I do think we have tremendous capabilities in the UK industry ... When I go and see my customers I see good management. They have managed their businesses well through the recession to preserve cash, adapted their business models, and survived reasonably well," he said.
Mr Quinn added that companies using sales recruitment across the UK managed to preserve cash during the recession better than he was expecting and actually reduced debt in the downturn by adapting their overall business model.
A report from HSBC Commercial Banking recently stated that new business trends and ways of working are developing in post-recession Britain as companies adapt.
