Public sector reform 'should be achieved alongside job creation'
Public sector reform is essential if private sector growth is to be achieved, a leading organisation has claimed.
The Confederation of British Industry (CBI) has called for both a public sector pay freeze and an additional government jobs creation drive, which could lead to a rise in sales recruitment opportunities.
Richard Lambert, director general of the CBI, has claimed that a detailed plan for the achievement of these goals must be published.
He said: "With a public-sector squeeze looming, the new government must also do everything it can to create the right conditions for the private sector to sustain and create new jobs."
Mr Lambert claimed it is essential that certainty be provided in the areas of taxation, capital investment and skills development in order to achieve these goals.
Earlier this month, Trades Union Congress general secretary Brendan Barber highlighted the importance of working to cut unemployment, emphasising the value of job creation to the economy at large.
