Govt 'must work to cut unemployment'
The new coalition government should work towards reducing unemployment, a leading organisation has claimed.
Brendan Barber, general secretary of the Trades Union Congress, has highlighted the importance of ensuring that actions are not taken which jeopardise the economic recovery.
Those looking for sales jobs may well agree with the group's emphasis on job creation and ensuring that the economy is rebalanced, with individual prosperity and that of the wider market built on employment.
Mr Barber said that it is essential that a consensus is built around the economic recovery plan and warned against taking actions which have not received a mandate at the ballot box.
He added: "As today's unemployment figures show, we are still suffering from the effects of the deep recession. The recovery is fragile and the public finances gap needs to be closed."
Earlier this week, the Forum of Private Business welcomed the Liberal Democrat and Conservative government's decision to rescind the one per cent rise in employers' national insurance contributions.
