Retweets could work as marketing tool
Retweeting posts on the micro-blogging site Twitter can be a very direct marketing tool because customers trust the word-of-mouth element to the feature, according to an expert.
Jim Monks, chief operating officer at the Twitter links aggregation service, said that consumers will engage with marketing campaigns spread via retweets because they "trust the recommendation" of friends.
Companies using sales recruitment could use the advice to improve their standing on the site, which has been used during the election to gauge voters' responses to political campaigning.
"The approach we're taking is we're looking more at your friends recommending something and sending it to you, which may not be as many, but it's a higher conversion rate because you trust the recommendation," he said.
Mr Monks compared the retweeting feature to someone sending a link to a popular YouTube video and he said this word-of-mouth approach instantly gives something more credibility, compared to traditional adverts.
