Retail sales figures keep on rising
Retail sales have grown for the third consecutive month and the CBI predicts this improvement will continue this year.
The CBI's latest Distributive Trades Survey revealed that 46 per cent of retailers reported sales volumes in early April which were higher than during the same period last year.
This positivity could have a knock-on effect for retail sales jobs and the organisation estimated that May should see similar growth figures.
Andy Clarke, chairman of the CBI Distributive Trades Panel and chief operating officer of ASDA, said that there has been a lift in the housing market and this has helped with retail sales of items like white goods and furniture.
"Spring has landed on the high street with some modest but welcome sales growth and that improvement is expected to carry on into early May. Grocers and shoe shops fared reasonably well in April," he stated.
Consumers have become increasingly interested in high-tech goods in recent years, with companies like Apple prospering thanks to innovative, forward-thinking products like the iPad.
