Consumer confidence returning to the high street
Shoppers feel more confident and are starting to spend again, with one expert predicting businesses and consumers will be looking forward to the summer.
Joshua Bamfield, director of the Centre for Retail Research, said he felt there was a growing sense of optimism in the retail sector - news which will be welcomed by the recruitment industry as the prospect of more retail sales jobs materialises.
Although Mr Bamfield believes there will be a slight dip in consumer confidence because of the uncertainty of the general election, he expects the summer and warmer evenings will offset any negativity after it is over.
"I think the key impact on retail sales is the fact that the sun is shining, people are feeling a lot more confident, the world didn't end last year and so [people] will carry on shopping," he stated.
Even though the retail sector may improve, people trying to secure jobs in the area should not simply apply for every position. Tor MacLeod, co-founder of www.careerplan4.me, says jobseekers should carefully consider every application and avoid the scattergun approach.
