Graduates from new universities 'should not be discounted'
Graduates looking for sales jobs should not be discounted if they have qualified from more recently established universities, according to an industry expert.
Pam Tatlow, chief executive of the university think tank Million+, said that employers should take care not to generalise when choosing candidates and not to write off those who have studied at a newer facility.
"All UK universities are quality assured and the biggest difference between universities is not the quality or the skills of their graduates but the socio-economic background of their students," she added.
Ms Tatlow also said that modern universities have much more diverse student profiles and a better track record at attracting students from a wide range of backgrounds. This could add real value to sales jobs and the services they provide.
Her words come after David Lammy, the higher education minister, said that charters would be drawn up by each university to give students a clear grasp of what they can expect from their fees.
