NCB to tackle youth unemployment with apprentice scheme
The National Children's Bureau (NCB) will attempt to get more young people into sales jobs through the launch of a new apprenticeship scheme.
The Skills Development Programme is an initiative which will support community and voluntary sector organisations to employ and develop the skills of young people who are not in education, employment or training, possibly setting them up for future success in sales jobs.
It will create job learning opportunities for unemployed young people aged between 18 and 24 to pick up valuable skills and experience in roles lasting five months, working 25 hours per week.
Sally Whitaker, deputy chief executive of the bureau, said: "We are delighted to bring young people this unique opportunity to gain 'on the job' experience in specific job roles. This programme comes at a time when the number of young people not in education, employment or training is worryingly high."
Kevin Green, chief executive of the Recruitment and Employment Confederation, said recently that the creation of sales jobs for young people is "vital".
