Expert: Latest unemployment figures 'good news'
New Office for National Statistics unemployment figures are "good news", according to an industry expert.
Kevin Green, chief executive of the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), said that the fact that there has been a fall of 3,000 in the number of people currently out of work backed up feedback reporting an increase in recruitment activity over recent months.
"Improving employer confidence is resulting in a more positive outlook on hiring intentions over the coming year, but the UK jobs market remains fragile," Mr Green told sales recruitment hopefuls.
He also responded to the Trades Union Congress argument that the job market looks "deceptively healthy" because of an increase in temporary and part-time work, stating that this type of position provides an important bridge back into employment.
A recent survey by the REC has revealed that 94 per cent of employers are planning to either maintain or grow their permanent workforces in the next 12 months.
