Online retail 'could be key for future of sales jobs'
Sales recruitment hopefuls could do worse than gaining some experience in online sales, with trends showing that this is going to be a profitable area in the next decade.
A new study from the Centre for Retail Research, conducted on behalf of Kelkoo, showed that online transactions now account for almost ten per cent of overall UK retail sales.
David Smith, director of operations at the Interactive Media in Retail Group, told sales recruitment hopefuls that the relative popularity of online retail in the UK was down to the advancements of broadband technology and the availability of credit cards.
"By 2020 we are going to have a situation where 90 per cent of retailing is going to be influenced by what at the moment you would call 'online'," he added.
Giving something for sales recruitment hopefuls to think about, he also commented that mobile applications, websites, PCs and laptops will help to drive this figure further.
