Employers 'to start hiring' again in 2010

Sales recruitment hopefuls have been given some encouragement with the news that more than nine out of ten employers are not planning any more job losses.

According to a new Recruitment and Employment Confederation Survey, 94 per cent of firms said that they will not be laying off any more staff, with one in five stating that they are now expecting to increase their permanent employee numbers over the coming 12 months.

The group's January JobsOutlook also showed a continued increase in employer confidence, with one in ten businesses planning to hire sales recruitment hopefuls in the next three months.

Roger Tweedy, the Recruitment and Employment Confederation's director of research, said: "The road to full employment will be slow but the trend of increasing employer confidence and a return to hiring is now established. We need to avoid any kind of employment legislation that will add to employers' costs and so hinder job opportunities."

Recently, the group advised that new agency regulations must not threaten the jobs recovery, with the final plans for the UK implementation of the EU Workers Directive laid before parliament recently.
