Sales recruitment hopefuls 'should be judged on skills'
People hoping for sales recruitment success have been told that the skills and abilities that they have should be the most important thing when they are trying to get a job.
Steve Williams, head of equality services at Acas, said that although there are no specific laws regulating weight or appearance discrimination, candidates should only be judged by their interview and what is on their CV.
"We would always urge employers to judge on skills and abilities alone and not make assumptions," he added.
Mr Williams' words come after research from Slimming World this week revealed that one in four male bosses would turn down a potential employee purely based on their appearance.
The survey also showed that one in four overweight people have suffered negative comments about their size in the workplace.
However, Mr Williams told sales recruitment hopefuls that employers have a duty of care to deal with situations like this, with line managers and supervisors needing relevant knowledge and people management skills to ensure that staff are treated fairly.
