Calls for 'enterprise' over London job plans
The capital's mayor and the London Development agency need to work closely with local boroughs to create more sales jobs, according to a thinktank.
London Councils, a lobbying organisation which promotes the interests of the capital city's local communities, said that in order to make London the world capital of business, the mayor needed to agree how best to allocate limited funds to boost the economy.
The councils' body has called on Boris Johnson to work with individual boroughs to decide which neighbourhoods are in most need of support to help unemployed people see success in sales recruitment.
Recommendations also said that small businesses and the development of new companies should be a priority.
Stuart Fraser, London Councils' executive member for economic development, said enterprise can be an important route out of unemployment and it is keen to see more opportunities for Londoners to start their own businesses or learn skills they can use to find jobs.
Last week, Boris Johnson made a plea to the government not to disadvantage London in the pre-Budget report, adding that it has a key economic role in the UK.
