Mental health support to be overhauled for small businesses
Advice lines and trained coordinators will be set up for small businesses as part of a radical overhaul of support for people with mental health conditions.
As part of a government vision to enhance mental health services, the measures have been brought in to try and increase the number of job opportunities to the whole population.
People with mental health conditions will now be able to get new support to manage their conditions and help them stay in or get back into sales jobs.
Yvette Cooper, secretary of state for work and pensions, said that the vast majority of people with mental health conditions work but for some it is a real knock to their confidence if they fall out of employment.
"We are also helping employers understand what they can do to help people stay in their jobs and manage their condition so that they don't have to leave work and fall onto benefits at all," she added.
Yasmin Miller, a tax accountant who was out of work for three and a half years due to depression, told the Times that "the more open people can be, the more comfortable others will get".
