Expert: Businesses need to engage with staff or they will leave
Managers need to engage with people in sales jobs to prevent them from going to the nearest competitor, according to an industry expert.
Julia Robertson, chief executive of outsourcing group Impellam, told delegates at the REC National Convention last week that it is really important to re-engage with workers about what the company is about, especially in the current climate.
"The important point is the culture [of the business] has to be fit for purpose and has to be owned by your leader of that business. Those leaders have to embody what that business is trying to achieve," she added.
Ms Robertson also explained that the key to engagement is to have consistency and ensure that staff know what behaviour and performance is acceptable through the good times and the bad.
A recent report from management firm the Hay Group showed that employment engagement levels are currently standing significantly below normal levels, at 59 per cent, compared to 72 per cent.
