Keeping workforce happy 'drives performance'
Sales job managers can help drive performance by keeping their workforce happy and social, according to an industry expert.
Best Companies, an employee engagement survey firm, said that people in sales jobs will reap the benefits from retaining the annual work Christmas party, especially during the current economic climate.
Jonathan Austin, founder and chief executive of the firm which compiles the Sunday Times' 100 Best Companies to Work For list, said that getting teams together at events such as a Christmas party was important on both a departmental and collective level.
Commenting on the importance of businesses providing social opportunities in the workplace, he added: "I don't think that they understand the value of it. Whereas the organisations that we measure at the top end of the engagement statistics - they get it. They create opportunities to get together as often as they can."
Research from Best Companies carried out over a ten year period showed that managers should thank their employees for their hard work during a difficult year, even if it is just through a personal note.
