Redundancies leading to small sales job growth
Fresh waves of redundancies are leading to many taking up the opportunity to set up their own sales jobs, according to an industry body.
Patrick Elliott, chief executive of Business Link in London, said that the entrepreneurial world is filled with success stories born out of redundancy.
"In any economic downturn, redundancies become a fact of business life, but it often fuels a wave of new entrepreneurs as people look to take control of their careers, turning their hobbies or interests into viable businesses," he added.
Mr Elliott also commented that now is a more positive time for small businesses in London, with the firm's own research showing that two-thirds are confident of growth in the next 12 months while 73 per cent remain optimistic about their overall business success.
Earlier this week, Invest Northern Ireland confirmed that its business information website had registered a 75 per cent increase in traffic as people looked to set up their own company.
