Benefits of flexible working 'should be emphasised'
Businesses should be placing more emphasis on flexible working, according to an industry expert.
Ruth Spellman, chief executive of the leadership body Chartered Management Institute, said that flexible working should be available in all sales jobs.
She added: "Flexible working can have a significant impact on employee motivation, engagement, productivity and overall performance and managers play a central role in the successful introduction of such working practices."
Miss Spellman added that, where practical, employers need to be receptive to the needs of their employees when designing flexible working contracts.
A recent YouGov poll on behalf of the Centre for Policy Studies found that if money were not a constraint then only one in five women would continue to work full-time.
The research also found that 26 per cent of full-time male workers would choose to continue working given the choice, while 17 per cent of part-time workers said that they would switch to full-time.
