Sales recruitment: Companies need to learn from mistakes

If UK sales jobs are to continue to recover companies must make sure they learn from their previous mistakes and treat employees better, according to one expert.

Richard Doherty, group vice president of solutions and marketing at Jobpartners, said that companies should pay workers the same amount of attention they give to customers.

He said that even though the market is recovering there is still a reduced number of roles on offer, which means that applicants need to be able to display more talent in order to get sales jobs.

Mr Doherty added: "Human resource departments need to ensure that they have got the key processes in place to support recruitment, employee performance, development and career and succession planning more effectively."

Graduates going for sales recruitment need to remain patient, according to Martin Pennington, a director at the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services, who recently said it could take longer for university leavers to find the right role in the recession.
