Firms 'to maintain training spend'

UK companies expect the economy to recover by the end of 2009 and investment in training to remain steady, it has been revealed.
Research carried out by leadership development group The Ken Blanchard Companies indicates only one-quarter of the 1,700 executive, line managers, human resources and learning and development professionals surveyed thought the downturn would continue unchecked into 2010.
Some 70 per cent of the international firms surveyed remained optimistic about the economy rebounding in 2009.
Jim O'Brien, managing director of the organisation in the UK, said: "Many [companies] appear to be looking inward to survive current conditions, with more than 60 per cent planning to invest in productivity and performance-maximising strategies."
The group went on to say that fewer than one in five of the companies surveyed stated that their organisation plans to spend significantly less money on training in 2009 compared to 2008.
Earlier this week, Construction Training London claimed employment training tends to become more popular during a recession.
