Engaged employees 'work harder'
Employees who are engaged in their work rather than simply satisfied make better staff, it has been claimed.
A study of over 2,500 employees across a range of public, private and not for profit organisations carried out by consultancy Pario HR Solutions found the most significant factor distinguishing 'engaged' from 'satisfied' employees was the extent to which the organisation demonstrated that it cared about its staff.
Doug Crawford, a director at the group, commented that 47 per cent of employees said they are either highly or moderately engaged and only five per cent are seriously disaffected, while 48 per cent are merely 'satisfied'.
He added: "Engaged employees are characterised by being highly committed to their organisation, their colleagues and their customers - and therefore provide high levels of discretionary effort, deliver higher quality work and exhibit superior levels of service."
Earlier this month, research published by Accenture found around half of workers at global firms are craving more challenges in the workplace.
