Half of employees 'crave more challenging work'

Nearly half of workers around the world, including those in sales jobs, are craving more challenges in the workplace, a new survey reveals.

Research published by Accenture shows three quarters are confident in their skills, but 46 per cent of women and 49 per cent of men want to have their abilities stretched.

The study finds 14 per cent of females turn to a mentor at work when they need support but suggests this resource is particularly useful, which could interest those applying for sales jobs.

Adrian Lajtha, chief leadership officer of Accenture, emphasises the value of these schemes.

He states: "Forward-thinking organisations know about promoting careers … [and] about offering employees challenges and enhancing their abilities so they can perform at their highest level."

Mr Lajtha says businesses that want to develop their employees will analyse the successes of these initiatives.
