Having a strong brand can lead to a strong level of employee engagement, something one expert claims is essential for a company's success.

Don Peppers and Martha Rogers write in Sales and Marketing that this will be the key thing which sets businesses apart and identifies customer service and sales jobs as the hardest thing for competitors to imitate.

They suggest a strong understanding of the consumer's preferences and needs set companies apart.

"When a sales rep, for instance, is tasked with achieving the most customer benefit … he is much more likely to enjoy his job and remain enthusiastic about it," they claim.

The writers assert that high levels of service can only be achieved when staff in sales jobs are engaged with their firm and engaging about their work.
