Staff 'should not pay for snow days'
Workers who were unable to make it into work because of snowy weather conditions should not have their pay docked, according to the TUC.
The union advises that it would be bad practice for employers who do not have 'bad weather' policies to not pay staff or force them to take holiday on days they could not come to the office, adding that doing so would create low morale among workers who were forced to stay at home through no fault of their own.
General secretary of the organisation Brendan Barber commented: "Scrooge bosses that dock pay and take away holiday will add to their business woes by creating resentment among staff."
He urged all employers to look after their staff during the adverse weather conditions.
Last week, Tom Schuller, director of the inquiry into the future for lifelong learning hosted by the National Institute of Adult Continuing Education, commented that some employers are actively looking to recruit older people because they tend to have a more even work record.
